This Privacy Policy explains how Joules ("Joules", "we", "us", or "our") collects, uses, shares, and protects your personal information when you use the Joules mobile application and related services (the "Service"). Joules is operated by Ardo Solutions L.L.C-FZ, a company registered in the United Arab Emirates.
The short version. Joules is a personal calorie, nutrition, and health tracker. We collect the information you log and the health data you choose to connect so the app can work for you. We do not sell your data, we do not show ads, and we do not use your health data for advertising. You can delete your account and data at any time from within the app.The data controller responsible for your personal information is:
With your explicit permission, Joules reads workout and activity data from Apple Health (iOS) or Android Health Connect (Android) to reflect calories burned and activity in your daily totals. This access is optional, is only enabled after you grant permission on your device, and can be revoked at any time in your device settings. We treat health and fitness data as sensitive information.
When you subscribe, the transaction is handled by Apple, Google, and our subscription provider RevenueCat. Joules does not receive or store your payment card details. We receive limited information such as your subscription status, product purchased, purchase/renewal dates, and an anonymised purchase identifier.
To provide certain features, the app asks your permission to access:
Each permission is optional, is requested only when it is needed, and can be changed or revoked at any time in your device settings.
The app and our analytics providers may use identifiers, SDKs, and similar technologies (such as pixels, tags, or beacons) to recognise your device and understand how the Service is used. We use these for analytics and to operate the app — not for third-party advertising. You can limit some of this through your device settings.
Do Not Track. Some browsers and devices offer a "Do Not Track" (DNT) signal. There is no common industry standard for responding to DNT, so we do not currently respond to DNT signals. In any case, we do not track you across other companies' apps or websites for advertising.
Where required by law (e.g. in the EU/UK), we rely on the following legal bases: performance of a contract (providing the app you asked for), consent (health data access, optional analytics), legitimate interests (improving and securing the Service), and legal obligation.
To estimate the calories and nutrition of a meal, Joules sends the meal photo and/or the text you enter to a third-party AI provider, Google (Gemini API), which processes it and returns an estimate. This processing happens only when you ask the app to analyse a meal. We do not send your identity, health data, or account details for this purpose beyond what is needed to return the estimate. Google processes this data as our service provider under its applicable terms. Cloud copies of meal photos are automatically deleted after 14 days (see Section 7).
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioural advertising. We share information only with:
| Recipient | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Supabase | Cloud database, authentication, and file storage that hosts your account and logged data |
| Google (Gemini API) | AI estimation of meal nutrition (Section 4) |
| RevenueCat; Apple; Google Play | Processing and managing subscriptions and purchases |
| Google Analytics | Aggregated product analytics to improve the app |
| Apple Health / Android Health Connect | On-device health platforms you connect (data flows to Joules with your permission) |
We may also disclose information to comply with the law or a valid legal request, to enforce our terms, to protect the rights and safety of our users and others, or in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets (in which case we will notify you).
Consistent with platform requirements (including Apple HealthKit and Android Health Connect policies), health and fitness data:
| Data | Retention |
|---|---|
| Account & logged data (meals, weight, habits, etc.) | Kept while your account is active; deleted when you delete your account |
| Cloud copies of meal photos | Automatically deleted after 14 days |
| Subscription records | Retained as required by our payment providers and for legal/accounting purposes |
| Analytics & diagnostics | Retained in aggregated/limited form per our providers' standard periods |
We may retain limited information longer where necessary to comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, or enforce our agreements.
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:
California & other US state privacy rights. If you are a resident of California or another U.S. state with a consumer privacy law, you have the rights listed above, including the right to know, delete, and correct your personal information, and to opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of personal information — although we do not sell or share your personal information for cross-context behavioural advertising. We will not discriminate against you for exercising these rights. You may exercise them, or appeal a decision about a request, by emailing hello@kjoules.app.
Deleting your account: you can delete your account and associated data at any time from within the app (Profile → Account → Delete account), or by emailing hello@kjoules.app.

Joules is operated from the United Arab Emirates, and our service providers may process and store data in the United States and other countries. These countries may have different data protection laws than yours. Where we transfer personal data out of the EEA/UK, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses.
We use technical and organisational measures to protect your information, including encryption in transit (HTTPS/TLS), access controls and row-level security on our database, and restricted administrative access. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, but we work to protect your data and to promptly address any issues.
Joules is intended for users aged 18 and over. It is not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor has provided us with personal information, contact hello@kjoules.app and we will delete it.
The app relies on the third parties listed in Section 5. Your use of Apple, Google, and other platforms is also governed by their own privacy policies:
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the app. Your continued use of the Service after an update means you accept the revised policy.
